This is the day that unifies mothers specifically to make merry for the milestones in the path of our life. Having watched mothers from all spectrum of careers, entrepreneurs, and occupations, motherhood is something that has always been at the front line of their journey. Sometimes probably we got some insights and lessons that when it comes to mother’s day there is no debating about it. It’s a natural instinct that always drove us to mothers. This is not attributed to advocating for women’s equality or stereotyping anything, it’s about the holistic impact that mothers created in our lives. Moreover, as per the statistics mother” s day is the third most celebrated day after Christmas and valentine’s day. At all points in our lives, we attribute gratitude to our mothers for the tremendous work they do throughout our phases of life, especially during childhood. Without being fixated on our biological mothers, women hold motherly instincts that they commit to it until are accomplished. Once a woman decides to take that step of motherhood whether biological or adoption, she does that for more reasons than just protecting or enlightening her own. It’s about guiding a being to the realization of the power within them that the universe is awaiting.
Through Millicent Ojuko a mother of two amazing adolescents in Viwandani Nairobi, motherhood is something that any mother is proud of seeing the virtue and encouraged behavior practiced by the children. Being a resident of an informal settlement the list is endless of the parenting challenges found here. The children can easily adapt to a new behavior through a shared wall. “I didn’t limit myself from learning new skills to enhance my parental roles. During the ended school holiday my son positively influence some of his friends and invited them to attend the church service that they had skipped for quite a while”, Millicent commented smiling. The informal settlement influences the upbringing of children greatly.
As a parent with experience of ghetto life, she never gets tired or ashamed to talk to her children about anything. “I am currently living my life and the best thing I do for my children is have frequent conversations because the choices they make today will impact them to their old age”, she added.
Through a complementary education program implemented in her locality by the U-Tena youth organization, she attributes the confidence to talk and the courage to choose words wisely when having a discussion with them. This speaks of millions of mothers that work extra hard for a better community. Given the power to bring life to this world, it’s an incredible and delicate matter that mothers always do their best to safeguard their offspring. As grown-up individuals, most of the instance we applaud our mothers for breakthroughs we involve or give a bit of an idea to them prior. The list can be endless, the key point is mothers are the divine mastermind of the world and without them, we are doomed, and to worsen the situation we wouldn’t have been existing.
