Short Term Teaching/ Coaching Job

Background
In Partnership with Grassroots Innovation for Change U-Tena Youth Organization seeks to Improve learning outcomes by providing alternative academic learning opportunities through community participation and out of school support for high school students in the informal settlements of Viwandani.
 
The project seeks to support learning processes which aim to improve learning outcomes of high school student at Ordinary Level (form 3 and Form 4). This group is more vulnerable because they are preparing for a national examination of which the results will determine their futures yet are marginalized from various learning platforms and opportunities during the Covid_19 crises because of their low economic status.
U-Tena Youth Organization Seeks to recruit high school teachers/mentors as per the below requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Coaching/ Teaching high school students drawn from different schools based on their needs and as per the Ministry of Education’s policy and guidelines;
  • Developing and marking of exams related to their subject matter in accordance with the schedule and material provided by the organization;  
  • Discussing disciplinary and student performance issues with the Monitoring and evaluation officers, counsellors and parents as needed;
  • Teach/mentor/coach in line with the ministry of Health’s Covid_19 Response guidelines;
  • Report lessons learnt, challenges and recommendations to the project management team on weekly basis;
  • Attend project’s meetings;
  • Providing support for the academically low performing students, to help improve and get motivated to reach their potential.
  • Attending training sessions when needed and as per the request of the project management team;
  • Performing such other related tasks or projects as they arise and as delegated by the management team;
 
Qualifications and Competencies:


  • Must be below 35 years;
  • A diploma or degree in teaching;
  • Certified to teach high school students on English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology;
  • Enrolment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC number is a must);
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, performance driven, results oriented, independent and above all with high initiative;
  • Excellent digital skills (be able to use a computer, internet and related applications;
  • Must be a practising teacher;
 
NB: Owing to the fact that this is a short-term engagement (Response Covid_19) we will only consider teachers who work within Mukuru.
