Motivational Talks

The A-Lot Change project 1 utilized motivational talks at least four times annually with the aim of increasing leadership skills amongst our youth. On 3rd March, 2018, the A-Lot Change participants gathered at St. Elizabeth Primary School to see Michael M. Wachira present on his talk. Growing up, Mike experienced various challenges, achievements, and journeys that he was able to share with the group. He encouraged the participants that they can overcome any challenge. Mike used the example of Nick Vujicic, a Russian Motivational Speaker, who was born without limbs and hands but was still able to function in society like any other man.

Ultimately, the participants learned that education is a tool that they can use to change their lives, and the lives of the people around them.

Recently, our students got to hear a talk by Robert from Ruben FM, a local community based broadcasting station in Mukuru. Robert gave the participants insights about goal-setting tactics and overcoming challenges. He also encouraged the participants to always have a schedule, and prepare for future events. Being a resident of Viwandani, he gave a brief story of his life which the participants were able to relate to. Below are some of the quotes he left:
 Never ever give up
 Don’t make comparisons
 Always stay positive
 Don't be afraid to ask for help
 Remember your goals

He also gave steps to goal setting, including:
 Set a goal that motivates you
 S.M.A.R.T (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely) Goals
 Set your goals in writing
 Stick with your goal
 Always remember to revise your goal
