This exposure visit was conducted on the 2nd March 2018. It was a career visit that was carried out at the Kenya Airports Authority. At least 250 standard eight participants from the A-LOT Change Project attended. Being a school day, U-Tena Youth Organization was able to receive permission from the relevant offices for the participants to attend this educational event. The participants conducted themselves with utmost discipline and organization as compared to the previous exposure trip to Kenyatta University. They had two facilitators who are members of staff at the Kenya Airports Authority. The two speaker hosts managed to give the boys and girls wonderful insight as they explained the various activities and careers that are carried out within the airport. In addition to this, the participants and the U-TENA staff members present were allowed access into the airport and the waving bay. Here, everyone was able to experience takeoffs and landing of aircrafts. The participants were well behaved and very eager to know more about what happens at the airport. They would often ask questions and give comments on the same. Their behavior has improved as they conducted themselves with discipline and made sure they followed the few guidelines that had been given to them. The customer care department, gave a motivational talk to pupils on what happens within the airport. The customer care department told pupils the following possible careers within the airport:
Pilots: drive planes,
Aeronautical and other engineers: responsible for making and repairing aircrafts
Air hostess: gives hospitality services within the plane
Security personnel’s: military officers, police officers and private security firms.
In plain security personnel’s: provide security services within the plane.
Customs officers: makes sure that goods imported and exported are tax compliance.
Air Traffic Control: controls landing and plane take offs
Sky Caps: helps travelers load and unload traveler’s baggage.
Line jobs: they work within the runways-aircraft refuellers, toilet surge
officers, baggage loading officers, plain cleaners and others.
Custodial jobs: makes sure that the airport is clean
Food service: offer food service at the airport.
Digital screen operators: they operate screens that gives traveling related
information.
Voice communications personnel’s: gives communications to travelers.
On top the above information another staff of Kenya Airport’s Authority told pupils that it is the duty of KAA to make and manage all airports within the country. She informed the audience that is the mandate of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) to manage airspace within the borders of Kenya. KCAA control planes that operates within the airspace of Kenya.
