Fighting Non Communicable Diseases in slums through partnerships!
Through the coordination of Ministry of Health official and support of U-Tena we successfully had a stakeholders meeting on 31st July 2019 at Jimlizer hotel Nairobi. The stakeholders meeting planning were done in collaboration with the sub county team and were able to invite several partners for the meeting. The stakeholders brought together KAWE, Access Afya, Kenya Red Cross, NACADA-a government body, Intellisoft and some county and sub county health management team members. The meeting was officially opened by the Makadara sub county and closed by the Nairobi county NCD coordinator (Ministry of Health-Kenya). U-Tena was able to share the work plan with the partners and agreement to collaborate in the forthcoming activities was done where Access Afya and Red Cross committed to screen for diabetes and hypertension during the community activities to be done by U-Tena.
The agreed partnerships goes on. U-Tena is working with the government some of the above partners to conduct community outreaches with a specific target of creating NCD awareness among the youth as well as screening and referring them for further health support.
